Want to Become a Really Good Writer? Polish Your Voice

I have come to notice that writing well is a tool that everyone can benefit from. Good writers will tell of many an occasion in which their talent has earned them advancement; an advancement that comes to play not only in the job market but also for personal gratification. Fortunately, writing is a skill that can be both taught and practiced to a point at which virtual perfection is reached. Though many facets of writing can seem quite overwhelming to the novice, the aspect of writing that most people are unaware of is the fact that it is actually broken down into a few basic principles. Because of the many benefits that proper voice, structure, and body development bring to one's writing, these dynamics of writing are more important than any other.

Voice in a piece of writing can bring rewards like nothing else can, and is the key to getting the reader involved in an article. Without it, the reader becomes passive and the article cannot be comprehended. Most articles have the essential material, so the manner in which the material is presented is what makes the difference... When an article is executed in a proper voice, the reader easily interacts and connections with it. Great sportswriters are experts in the use of voice: How else can one become involved in the action? Without a play by play description in the right voice, the writing becomes a tedious mass of words, but with the right voice, the action comes to life and jumps off the page into the reader's reality. Voice is a logical facet of writing which, when properly executed, leads the path to effective writing.

Effective structure is another necessity in article writing. Without it, an articulate piece of writing can become a nebulous maze of imperfection. Structure acts as a road map for the reader … when the reader can follow the article's structure, the article as a whole becomes easier to comprehend and the reader can follow the article logically and therefore does not have to fill in his own gaps. When a reader can read without stumbling across deformities, he is at bliss and proper structure can lead to this.

Finally, the actual development of an article's body is key in effective writing. Again, the reader is always the primary focus and the writing must adhere to his needs. The well constructed body provides a basis for the article; a basis for the reader. Once this basis is established, it must be developed throughout the article. The breadth of an article can often keep the reader attached. Development adds this breadth, and therefore is an essential facet of article writing. It should become evident that voice, structure, and body development are all essential elements of effective writing. The primary purpose of writing is to serve the reader. These three facets all manage to cater to the reader's palate. Without them, an article cannot function as it rightfully should.
